Trails Update: May 3, 2025

remote work?

While I was “busy” riding The Big Kahuna’s doppelganger (in Mansfield), buffing out my mom’s lake access trail and gawking at wonderful Quebec sunsets, the WORCA crew toiled away on Piece of Cake. As mentioned in last week’s update, we’re “taking some of the edge off” the Dessert Platter, because dessert should go down easy! The crew has opened up some extra real-estate in switchbacks and ramped up-and-over steps to help carry momentum. They even rerouted a steep section that has tormented me since it was built. The new work climbs more gradually where the older trail punched straight up. We’ll keep working up chasing the snow but it sounds like we’re losing that race now that the Wildfire Rating has climbed to HIGH…

WSSOLP!

This week we kicked off our student volunteer season welcoming Whistler Secondary School’s Outdoor Leadership Program (WSSOLP). Mr Kung’s class joined the trail crew on Delineator to help bench out our redesigned blue level line. As the student’s dug away at the duff, Jacob and Reilly pulled stumps to give riders a more intermediate level tread. We’ll continue this project with the school next week… and perhaps complete it on a Tuesday Dig night later this spring.

AM/PM TRAIL NIGHT!

Santa Cruz Bikes is the season kick-off sponsor! WORCA members (remember to buy your membership here) are welcome to Tuesday Trail Nights which are starting May 6 on the AM/PM trail. We’ll be modifying the exit, adding a few features and a “cool down” section before exiting onto the FSR. Members must sign up for the event HERE so that we can plan for  enough tools/food/staff and… drinks. I’m very happy to share that Coast Mountain Brewing has once again partnered with WORCA to provide fizzy drinks to tired diggers!

See you on the trails!
